    The List:Cosmetic Tools

This month's list is dedicated to the tools of the trade. This list is by no means complete, but rather, these are the tools that I use for my own purposes. Other dancers and makeup artists have their own list of essential tools. These are items I recommend for anyone putting together a cosmetic kit.

Cosmetic Sponges: Wedge or Circular, these disposable sponges are wonderful for applying concealer and foundation.

Eyelash Curler: Make your eyes wider in seconds with a quick squeeze.

Pencil Sharpener: Keep your eyeliner, lipliners and three-in-one pencils at their sharpest.

Tweezers: Keep brows in good shape with a quick tweeze.

Manicure set: Don't forget your finger tips and include a basic set of manicure tools such as nail clippers, files and such.

Mirror: I like a double-sided mirror with a magnifying side to really get a good look at the details.

Storage box or bag: A good box is critical for not only storing the products and tools, but also for keeping them organized and arranged for ease of use.

Brushes: Every dancer needs a set of high quality brushes to assist her in makeup application.

Blush: Fluffy oval brush for a smooth swath of color without a distinct edge.
Powder Brush: A larger version of the blush brush, this is used to apply a light dusting of powder to set and finish the face.
Eye Shadow: Oval shaped for putting on wide swipes and a Wedge shaped for contouring
Eye Liner: This can be round and pointed for a tiny line or can be flat and wider for bigger swath.
Lash and eyebrow grooming brush: Dual sided for eyebrows and eyelashes to separate smooth and control.
Lip Liner: A necessity for precision application and quick touch-ups. Great for using the last dregs of a lipstick tube.
Disposable foam eyeshadow applicators: These are generally larger than the onces you get with each little eyeshadow.

Many dancers use their makeup box as the repository of an emergency kit and other essentials. Here are a few more things that I have seen dancers carry around. I would not reccomend cramming all of this stuff into your makeup kit, but rather, put together a secondary "gig bag" with essential items in it that can be left in your costume bag.
