What Happened to March?
Costumer's Notes took a month long hiatus as I struggled to
finish up my new book, Bedlah, Baubles and Beads.
Our goal debut at Rakkasah West 2001! After working on
this book for over a year, when it was time to bring the text
and images together and layout the pages, we realized we had
a serious problem It was TOO LONG!
So, in the final six weeks of production we started chopping,
condensing and massaging the text to make it fit. Whew! With
over 300 illustrations to position and 27 chapters, it became
clear that we just couldn't keep the book under 150 pages. We
were up against a deadline so we went to work. It was a huge
pile of information that needed to be reorganized and consolidated
to fit our printing constraints.
Sadly, several entire chapters hit the cutting room floor.
Many chapters needed to be rewritten to improve the flow of the
information and some of the illustrations were shrunk to fit.
We decided not to cut any of the pictures, and wound up tucking
them in here and there filling up the book margins. What happened
to the cut text? Well, we will be placing some of the material
here in Costumer's Notes. We also have added some new booklet
titles to our To-do list that will be appearing later this year
and early next year.
To produce the best possible product, we had to stay focussed
and unfortunately, Costumer's Notes was one of the projects that
was temporarily postponed. The content of March's C.N. will appear
in this and subsequent editions.
Enjoy this month's issue of Costumer's Notes and please come
join us for future installments.
Happy Costuming!
